SINGING IS BELIEVING
.. This beats talking to your celphone while driving which has been found to increase the chances of being in an accident with or without a hands free aid. Can the two findings be reconciled? Doesn't singing count as a distraction, albeit a milder one? On second thought, I still have to see a movie scene of a vehicular accident that was caused by someone singing. If there's actually one, it could be that William Hung was playing on the radio.

ON FIRE
I was just in Fire island recently and saw portions of the beach being fenced around. I'm presuming they were intended to protect the nests of the piping plover. A police SUV is parked conveniently hidden in one corner of the road that is off-limits to vehicles. A royalty of a bird indeed.

INTERNET STREET
. Next time you see graffiti along the streets of New York City, try to look twice. You'll never know what you're going to get through your celphone.

COSTCO VS. WALMART
.. Costco is fast becoming to be the anti-Walmart, the antidote to the capitalist obsession for profits at the expense of the worker that has Wall Street as its cheerleader. Costco is striking the right balance for shareholders, employees and consumers keeping them all happy while at the same time staying profitable. While Walmart's average pay is a paltry $9.68 an hour, Costco's average is $16 - well above most retailers. I guess the secret is out (and a good one for me since I haven't shopped there) that there's actually a retailer that provides quality products at reasonable prices and not at the expense of its workers. The Walmart backlash continues.. Stay tuned.

HACKER POWER
.. This could be one argument against the crusade of Hollywood versus file sharers. There is just no way to stop people from tinkering with technology and initiate breakthrough innovation without tampering with their freedom from doing so. Congress will now have to walk a fine line between encouraging innovation and stifling it in the process of defending copyright. That is not to say tampering with artist's work and companies' products are justified. However, relentlessly going after hackers and tinkerers who will always be ahead of the law only punishes consumers who will bear the cost of this fight in terms of higher prices passed on by manufacturers to recoup their expenses.

THE DIE IS CAST
.. Events in the coming days will determine the economic fate of the Philippines. A cloud will hang above Pres. Gloria Arroyo's government even if she survives the scandal now facing her. All parties should come to a mutual governing agreement in order to spare the country's economy from further damage. Im even in favor of a caretaker government in the form of a commitee of senior leaders including former Pres'. Aquino and Ramos only if this can be allowed in the constitution. The point remains that Arroyo can't expect to govern effectively again. Impeachment proceedings should commence to clear her name legally and in the event that she is not impeached, she should immediately appoint a commission to take care of governing the country with her to show her good faith..

GOD SAVE LONDON
.. The worst attacks in London since World War II occured today killing at least 37 innocent civilians and wounding hundreds of others. This is a cowardly attack on civilized humanity and should rightly be condemned by the world community. The terrorists are using their greatest weapon - instilling fear among the populace in order to proclaim the rightness of their cause. This strategy will not succeed and our hope is for the world community to remain vigilant in continuing to fight terror.

BIGGER APPLE
.. Too bad New York's population is not shrinking. Everybody knows the strain on the city's services not to mention the cost of having too many people that it can handle. The city is the epitome of the American dream and the power of dreams can't be stopped. So bring 'em on.
