watching the
Martin Luther special on channel 13 brings to mind the recent scandals plaguing the Catholic church. although there is a significantly marked difference between both realities, the church should take no pleasure that they are doing something about the scandals unlike the time of Luther that sparked the Reformation movement. the spirituality and integrity of Karol Wojtyla is unquestioned but the scandals at the bottom is razing like wildfire and will continue on for years. the zero-tolerance policy adopted by the Catholic Bishops of America makes sense and should be adopted all over the world. never mind the practical consequence of draining the clergy of its own members. new servants will come forth with renewed vigor but the task at hand is about cleaning up the ranks of the clergy and fast. if it resists being pro-active, the church faces the danger of a new reformation brought by an activist laity that will seriously undermine the episcopal authority of the universal church.
