I SURVIVED THE GOP CONVENTION!
..At least 800,000 New Yorkers left the city during last week's Republican convention at the Garden. It could be part paranoia with security threats and part "I dont want to hear about Republican lies" and the liars who tell them - borrowing from Franken's book. Whatever it is, it was actually good for some of us who stayed put. The buses were half empty and the trains were just surreal, like living in pre-Giuliani New York when people shunned the trains. (Just read about it. I wasn't here.) My commute to work was as pleasant as it can get. No scrambling for the next available seat and no skirmishes. I didn't hear any "excuse me!" all week. Makes you wonder what you have to put up to live here and be at the center of the universe. Respek!
