BUSH TO THE RESCUE
.. It is fitting for Pres. Bush to act as compassionate conservative in his embrace of a comprehensive immigration policy overhaul now that he stands at the lowest point of his presidency. It is a much better image of the President compared to his bungling of the Katrina disaster relief and the directionless foreign policy that is epitomized by the quagmire the US government is facing in Iraq. Bush is wise to look back to history when Clinton risked alienating his base in overhauling the Welfare System back in the late 90's. He needs to appear strong in order to do what is right to fix the immigration problem even at the risk of alienating the conservative right. It's a risky proposition for the president amid his waning influence among Republicans and its leaders but it might be the only way to change the subject away from the Iraq war and his mishandling of recent disasters that appear to have defined his legacy.

COMPUTER GLITCH
.. There are ways to get around automated company answering services. I discovered this accidentally at work when the automated customer service repeatedly could not understand my voice response selection when I needed help for my HP work laptop. Out of frustration I just unconsciously punched the number 0 and the computer voice responder forwarded me to a live agent.

THE TROUBLE WITH COHEN
.. There's no question that the Ali G show is very funny. To assume, however, that they can get away with racism in this day and age is ingenuous. The government of Kazahkstan has every right to condemn Mr. Cohen's Borat antics on the show. Why Cohen chose a real country and not a fictional one is beyond me.

NO FAVORS FOR FERBER
.. Watching Dr. Richard Ferber on the Today this week convinced me that this guy must have suffered inattention and the lack of hugging and affirmation when he was a child. That's the only plausible reason for this highly controversial theory. Is Dr. Ferber out to make America more insensitive, impersonal and narcissistic that it already is?

IGNORANCE IS NOT BLISS
.. Racism against Asian kids mostly stem from ignorance. I've been mistakenly called names (Chinese mostly) just by being Asian. I assure you it was not a pleasant experience and school authorities should be more vigilant and practice prevention techniques. What about good quality education programs for a start?

SPANKING HOT
.. The debate just never ends. Should you or shouldn't you spank your child as a form of discipline? Does spanking sacrifice the long term gain of teaching a child discipline by example with the short term gain of silencing children by hitting them? The Child Development journal thinks spanking and other forms of hitting meant to discipline produce kids who tend to be more aggressive than kids disciplined through other means regardless of culture.
