SCIENCE AND GOD
.. A deep reading and reflection on this article will result in the conclusion that there is no inherent conflict between Science and Faith. The seeming fundamental conflict occurs in the misformulation of the question whether the universe was created by chance or by necessity. Father Coyne answers the two are not mutually exclusive, that the ongoing evolution of the universe requires both chance and necessity (design). There is method to the madness, the seeming randomness of molecules meeting together to form matter. Faith and Science address two different concerns and must be allowed to proceed with neutral deferrence to each other. We don't need God to see the natural processes happening before our eyes much the same way that we don't need science to believe in a loving God whose mystery is constantly revealed to our understanding every day.
