THE POLITICS OF CHANGE
.. Is Vice Pres. Cheney an asset or a liability to the Bush administration? The question may be entirely irrelevant. Bush has staked his whole presidency on Iraq of which Cheney was the main cheerleader and chief-strategist. Bush cannot afford to remove the veep and run the risk of having the most defining moment of his presidency branded a mistake. Even having the appearance of disfavor will feed the raging lions of the left and other critics. With his plummeting poll ratings, that's something Bush, the astute politician that he is, cannot afford.
