URBAN FLIGHT

.. The Census reports that more and more people have been fleeing traditional metropolitan cities for the suburbs. These large cities, supposedly, are increasingly losing population due to high costs of living and not enough increase in the means to support themselves like good jobs with higher pay etc. That people are getting priced out of cities is not new. What is new is the growing trend or pattern involving the nation's largest cities. There are many consequences to this phenomenon. Diversity in the culture is affected since the affluent are more likely to be white. Cost of living for those who remain tend to increase as unfettered capitalism runs amok. The only advantage I can think right now is the redistribution of the political landscape of red and blue, making Republican leaning Southern states purple. That is, if they even bother to register to vote.
