TIME-D OUT
.. Time's Top 100 Albums list joins a long line of infamous compilations that will satisfy some and annoy others. What was the criteria used by the editors? How can one equate relevance of an album across different time periods? Join the debate.

FALL CASUALTY
.. What happened to the show Six Degrees? It seems that ABC has decided to pull it off after a meager 4 episodes. Though the concept about interconnectedness was good and certainly interesting, it suffered from lack of punch and urgency as far as I'm concerned. Too bad for a story that one would think would appeal to the masses in the web2.0 era. All those great scenes in New York City put to waste even as the network promised for the remaining shows to be back next year.

YOUR DIGITAL FUTURE
.. Will the cameraphone upstage the point-and-shoot ones? Not yet, at least for now. It is not easy to compose good shoots using your phone as I have found out in my random experiment in the subway. Wantonly taking pictures of NYC's landmarks and critical infrastructures is being frowned upon in today's post-9/11 world. You have to do it surreptitiously. I'm sure my beat-up shoe will agree.

ROCKING AOL
.. I just finished downloading AOL's Openride, via signing up with a new email address. I haven't figured out how to get to Openride through an upgrade of your existing AOL account , if you have one. My guess is it will be part of a link if you have AOL broadband or AOL ISP. I used my original AOL email address and it works!
.. I like Openride's ability to see eveything in a movable quadrant. It was easy to navigate through email, IM and the browser for news etc. The coolest quadrant, which happens to be quadrant IV (go figure), I haven't checked out yet. With unlimited file storage, 10 XM radio channels and others, what's not to like?
..Problem is, AOL is not doing a good job of creating major buzz for their new baby. I bounced it off a technophile friend hanging out on AIM and he had no clue what it was!

PHISHING 2.0
.. Online scammers haven't gone away, in fact, they have become more brazen in tricking people. You would be wise to ponder their latest tricks not only technologically, but most alarmingly, psychologically.

LET THE RECOUNT BEGIN!
..When the clocked ticked at midnight earlier, the countdown for a recount to determine control of the U.S. Senate has begun. Democrats have taken control of the House of Representatives, catapulting to history the soon-to-be first female Speaker in U.S. politics. It now comes down to 3 races -- Montana, Missouri and the closest contested election result in Virginia that has already raised shouts of a recount due to Virginia election law that stipulates a recount if the resulting spread falls below half of one percent. It is still too close to call and tomorrow we will surely have the answer..

OF MICE AND WINE
.. Scientists discover a substance that when added to the diet of mice reduces obesity-related associated with diabetes, heart-disease and cancer. The compound, called resveratrol and found naturally in red wine may just be the answer a lot of health-conscious people have been waiting for. As always, anything done in excess is bad and may, in this case, mitigate the intended healthy effect of drinking red wine. So take a sip, enjoy the pleasure of good company and hope for the best.

KILLING HER SOFTLY
.. A study concludes that rural divorced women have more illnesses than normal immediately after divorcing. The implication of the study is that "there seems to be a link between the higher number of physical illnesses and the different stresses associated with divorce, including financial problems, demotions, layoffs and parenting problems." This appears counterintuitive to conventional wisdom of separating to escape the misery of married life, except that the operative word here is RURAL. I doubt it if urban women generally experience the same considering the myriad opportunities in both career and personal development that cities offer. Is it because rural women have less support in terms of personal and financial relationships that otherwise would help them mentally cope? Most likely. Plus the study added that divorced women, especially in rural areas, have poor job opportunities and fewer support systems.
