.. I don't know about you but 25-32 million people, or roughly 18 percent of the US population found to have downloaded a movie illegally, is too much of a stretch compared to reality. Anyone who has attempted to download knows that it is not that easy technically, from issues regarding download speeds to where to download from in the first place. It takes time and effort, not to mention technical savvy, to be able to download a movie even from supposedly ubiquitous sources such as P2P software networks that are very hard to understand save for the truly geeky. If, indeed this is true, then I'm probably looking in the wrong places. Either they have miscounted repeat versus unique violators or this is all about carrying the cudgels for the movie industry by blowing out of proportion the threat to score policy points.

.. Watch out, YouTube! Here comes Joost, from the same people who gave us Skype. This is not meant just to be another YouTube but much, much more than the usual grainy videos we've been accustomed to from the Web2.0 phenom. Joost will be more like an upgrade of Internet TV and will be open to everyone who want to submit original content taken presumably from high-end cameras. Will this be more viral than Skype? Time will tell but one thing is sure: An idea who's time has come will be hard to stop.

.. Apple was so busy popping the champaigne they forgot there is a whole new revolution in media outside Cupertino, and that we now look at the world with YouTube eyes. The whole point of this new YOU world is self-expression, the ability to share a bit of yourself to the world through pictures and video. Apple still goes around wearing the cloak of cool and carries it proudly. Problem is, definition of cool has changed. It has metamorphosed from "having" the latest it product to BEING the latest product paraded around.

.. More people than ever take pictures and forward it to their blog through email or text. They take videos of everything that moves and upload it or pass it on to their friends. The 2megapix cameraphone is so 2006 and video on other phones will get better and better in 2007. Suffice it to say that not everyone will throw their phones in the garbage and pick up the latest iPhone available. Think Europe and Asia here. Unless Apple makes it easy to do all the things mentioned above and not confine iPhone would-be users in an OSX environment, all will be well in the cellphone industry.

.. Fear not, loyal Apple fans. The company is certainly not that stupid and somehow in the not-so-distant future, the iPhone will carry a camera with a resolution higher than 2 megapixels, put a front VGA camera to support iChat/WiFi-based video call to give Skype/JaJah/Yahoo!Messenger a run for its money, upgrade its storage to 30 or even 80 GB and most important of all, at least for me, allow iPhones to be unlocked and sold outside Cingular. Umm, don't count on the last one to happen anytime soon but consider Apple warned. Customers have soured on Cingular's useless roll-over gimmick, expensive monthly plans and rumor has it, increasing text messaging rates. Three out of four is TOO bad. That's why I'm going to wait for the oh-not-so-distant future.

.. I just finished downloading AOL's Openride, via signing up with a new email address. I haven't figured out how to get to Openride through an upgrade of your existing AOL account , if you have one. My guess is it will be part of a link if you have AOL broadband or AOL ISP. I used my original AOL email address and it works!

.. I like Openride's ability to see eveything in a movable quadrant. It was easy to navigate through email, IM and the browser for news etc. The coolest quadrant, which happens to be quadrant IV (go figure), I haven't checked out yet. With unlimited file storage, 10 XM radio channels and others, what's not to like?

..Problem is, AOL is not doing a good job of creating major buzz for their new baby. I bounced it off a technophile friend hanging out on AIM and he had no clue what it was!
