OFFICE BLUES
.. Tell me about it. Now what I don't understand is how this study correlated low morale with employee bad attitudes.

MORE LIKE "DOOM-RING"
.. Can the mood ring, nicknamed "jerk-o-meter" predict when a guy is about to be dumped? Now that would be something..

ROYAL MESS
.. Makes you wonder whether it's the 21st century or what. A royal ceremony such as this one in the guise of national unity is ludicrous and must be rightly condemned by the modern world. It degrades women's dignity where poverty and AIDS are already decimating a good number of them. The world will never be a better place until the men of this world start to respect more than half of the globe's population.

PAPACASHZZI
.. Good old capitalism is simply at work here. The competition for the latest and candid images of celebrities in their mundane activities is fiercier than ever. Who can blame these mercenary photographers? How often have I been tempted to always log around a digital camera hoping to catch a glimpse of a movie star in nyc? It will just be a matter of time before tourists start to hawk around their stolen shots of just about any movie star for money. I wish the law will catch up with them before any tragic celebrity vehicular crash happens. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

TALK IS CHEAP

.. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! Google is joining the ranks of behemoths AOL, MSN and Yahoo in the instant messaging market. So much chatting and yet all these softwares are still not able to talk to each other. Interoperability remains elusive as well as the profits and it remains to be seen whether the company can parlay this into a profitable venture. Not that Google needs the money but the extra feature of VOIP server and client package might just shake up the telecom market and enable Google to surpass Microsoft as the tech company to watch. Is Google the next Microsoft? Will this give birth to Google haters all over the globe who will try to bring the young company down? Not likely and so far the company is playing its cards right with its innovative products, the same path that Microsoft used to tread. Who knows?

COSTAS IS NO KING
.. Whoever conceived of this idea can kiss it goodbye. Bob Costas was terrible tonight as Larry King's substitute in a 1-hour sitdown with Conan O'Brien. I mean, who wouldn't have a grand time sitting with the man? You don't even have to try. Just sit back, relax. Well, Costas looked like he didn't and sounded so flat it was painful to watch. He talks too much and is the total opposite of Larry. Somebody ought to tell Bob the secret to King's success - "less is more!"

THE REAL AMERICAN IDOL?
.. CBS outfoxed Fox this time with its show Rockstar INXS. It will bring out the rock star in you while glued to your seat. It's a pity the show has not caught on among tv viewers. The contestants are definitely more talented and the show adds a bit of intrigue by grouping people and assigning them collaborative tasks measuring their teamwork quotient. Early favorite has to be Mig, an Australian-Filipino who showed his talent and range tonight by singing "Baby I Love Your Way" by Peter Frampton while playing the piano. Goodbye idol, hello rockstar!

.. We congratulate the Filipino talent, Cristeta Comerford, a naturalized citizen in becoming the new White House executive chef. Ms. Comerford, a graduate of the University of the Philippines broke two distinct honors. She is the first woman and the first minority ever to be named to the position. Sulong, kabayan!

YOUTH POWER

.. The 2005 World Youth Day will commence this week in Cologne, Germany. Some 800,000 young people from all over the globe are expected to attend, way below the millions that gathered to see Pope John Paul II. Some Ratzinger detractors are already blaming this low turnout on Pope Benedict, an unfair criticism at best. The last one in Toronto had a much lower number but no one faulted JPII for that. A fair argument can be made about the youth's waning interest in the Catholic Church. They see it as being run by old men who are so out of touch with the problems of the modern world. This is by no means a tacit approval of the vagaries of youth especially in Western countries. It is, however, an indictment of the failure of the Church to speak in language the young can understand and relate to.

The Church increasingly stands in the way of people having a personal encounter with Christ with its extreme emphasis on absolute dogma and central authority. The Church needs to reach out to everyone, sinner or saint in order to spread the Gospel. It needs to consider that Grace emanates from a loving God who is mystery - in the sense that we can never fully grasp at once God's will and provenance. Sometimes light slips through and we can get a glimpse of God anywhere where light can penetrate. The church hierarchy cannot prevent this light from shining on everyone. That would be the ultimate heresy - determining who can or cannot receive grace. That right is reserved for God and God alone.

WAY TOO COLE
..I can't help but rave about Kenneth Cole's cool taglines. Since the Democrats need a coherent message, they should hire this guy. His stuff is terrific! The latest one that Lou Dobbs will surely appreciate: "There are now 50 red states, thanks to the national debt." Surely Cole is too cool to be ignored any longer.

35 DAYS 35 NIGHTS
.. Does it really matter how long the President's vacation is? Will it improve his performance if he cut it short? I doubt that to be the case. The crucial number is not the 5 week vacation George Bush is taking albeit it is the longest ever in 36 years. It is that 3.5 years left into his presidency, he has surpassed Ronald Reagan's total in all two terms with more opportunities to go for more. The first MBA president, you can argue that Bush II is only practicing the virtues his business experience taught him. Be that as it may, his presidency will be judged according to the legacy of accomplishments he will leave and not the number of vacations he took.

THE NOT-SO-GREAT RAID

.. Too bad not a single Filipino was featured in the trailer. Just hoping the actual movie will do justice to the Filipino talent that will be unleashed in this movie. A must-see if only for that.
