HIGH COST OF EDUCATING
.. No amount of gimmick can hide the fact that teachers all over the country are not paid commensurate to their skill and the degree of difficulty of their work. It is no wonder why schools in the more affluent areas tend to have higher skilled teachers than the poorer ones. The government and the private sector should work together to subsidize the cost of hiring skilled teachers and to fix the broken elementary education system. The future and security of America depends on it.

ET TU, AOL?
.. AOL is doing everything it can to stop court proceedings from revealing more information that it diverted data to the NSA to help its eavesdropping program. Apparently, these technical documents provided by an insider prove that the government is not only listening in on terrorist related calls but on domestic calls among ordinary Americans. Makes me wonder if it's wise to move to Cingular mobile now that my T-mobile contract is almost up.

URBAN FLIGHT
.. The Census reports that more and more people have been fleeing traditional metropolitan cities for the suburbs. These large cities, supposedly, are increasingly losing population due to high costs of living and not enough increase in the means to support themselves like good jobs with higher pay etc. That people are getting priced out of cities is not new. What is new is the growing trend or pattern involving the nation's largest cities. There are many consequences to this phenomenon. Diversity in the culture is affected since the affluent are more likely to be white. Cost of living for those who remain tend to increase as unfettered capitalism runs amok. The only advantage I can think right now is the redistribution of the political landscape of red and blue, making Republican leaning Southern states purple. That is, if they even bother to register to vote.

THE POLITICS OF CHANGE
.. Is Vice Pres. Cheney an asset or a liability to the Bush administration? The question may be entirely irrelevant. Bush has staked his whole presidency on Iraq of which Cheney was the main cheerleader and chief-strategist. Bush cannot afford to remove the veep and run the risk of having the most defining moment of his presidency branded a mistake. Even having the appearance of disfavor will feed the raging lions of the left and other critics. With his plummeting poll ratings, that's something Bush, the astute politician that he is, cannot afford.

CALL ME DOCTOR
.. With the explosion of the baby boomer population some of whom may not be able to visit the hospital, doctors who make house calls are doing society a huge favor.
